#PushAwaytheScreen: A Weekend of Fun at the Downtown Tampa Waterfront

by jennifer22. April 2015 07:03

The weekend of May 2nd and May 3rd is going to be a great way for me and the family to get out and #PushAwayTheScreen. Thanks to my association with the Tampa Bay Bloggers, my family and I were invited to head downtown to enjoy the FIRST ever TAMPA DOWNTOWN CARNIVAL and the TAMPA RIVER RUN!!

The Tampa Downtown Carnival will be held on both May 2nd and May 3rd at the Cotanchobee Park which is located directly on the Tampa Riverwalk, just next to the Amalie Arena and the Garrison Channel.  This is a 5 acre park, and you can access the Carnival from the Tampa Riverwalk, Channelside, or Amalie Arena. The physcial Address to the park is 601 Old Water Street  Tampa, FL 33602

Believe or not, there will be actual carnival rides and games at the Tampa Downtown Carnival.  And of course traditional midway games and food!

The carnival is both kid friendly, dog friendly, and adult friendly. There will be kid rides, entertainments, and for the adults the Sierra Nevada Beer Garden is where you can enjoy a drink while listening to live music! Ice cold beer will be on tap all day!  Wine and full liquor will also be available.  Enjoy LIVE MUSIC Saturday 2p to 10p and Sunday 2p to 6p at the Beer Garden.

Beers Available:

Samuel Adams Summer Ale

Samuel Adams Boston Lager

Yuengling

Miller Lite

Rebel IPA

Traveler Shandy

Angry Orchard

You should purchase your ALL DAY ride wristbands online HERE.

We'll be heading down on Saturday because on Sunday we'll be participating in the Inaugural Cigar City Brewing Tampa River (Fun) Run along the Tampa Riverwalk.

Your run will start at The Pier at Cotanchobee Park (601 Old Water Street, Tampa) on the Tampa Riverwalk. You will then run towards Downtown on the Riverwalk, passing the Marriott Waterside, Sail Pavilion, Tampa Convention Center, USF Park, Macdill Park, the newly completed Kennedy Over Water Segment, and then to Curtis Hixon Park when you will turn around to go back to the Pier. Overall distance is approximately 2 Miles.

The family and I have walked this path before and it's VERY nice. We are really looking forward to this run and it should be a great way for Ronin to ease his way back into running since he's gotten the "all clear" from his doctor and can officially be out of his boot on Tuesday April 28th. Though I'll suggest to him that he walk, not run.

With your registration you'll get:

  • T-Shirt
  • Medal (which also functions as a beer opener)
  • 1 Cigar City Beer

You can register HERE and you'll want to do that ASAP as the prices will begin to increase closer to the date!!

I hope to see you all out there at one, or both of these great events!!

Going to be a fun weekend! My son's school drum band is playing in Macdill Park downtown that Saturday (actually, they have a lineup of local school bands that day - seems like a great way to get the word out about the riverfront.) Hope you guys have a great time & fun run! By the way popping over from #TBB #FridaySharefest
