When I was 13 years old I used to love the smell made by a burning match. Not when the match was burning, but right when you would blow it out.
My parents collected match books, so matches were always around.
One day, I was on the telephone talking to my best friend Krissy, and lighting matches and then smelling them (yes, I was a weird kid.)
But this time, I brought the match a little too close to my face before blowing it out.
And my hair caught on fire.
I had to drop the phone and RUN to the sink and put my burning head under the faucet. I was very lucky. I burned off the top part of my eyebrows, and bangs, but suffered no injury. I clipped the rest of my bangs (and did I mention this was the day BEFORE picture day) and when my mom came home from work she did notice the burnt hair smell, the shortness of my bangs, asked me what happened, but I lied and told her that I tried to trim my bangs for picture day and got carried away.
That was the last of that conversation.
I only recently (like in the past year) told her the truth about what had happened.
After that incident I NEVER played with matches again. In fact, fire scares the living daylights out of me. I won't light a grill, etc...I just freak out over fire.
I've tried to teach my kids about fire safety, and just last week Ronin learned about it in his Cub Scout meeting, and LEGOLAND wants to help, too!
