Relentless Life September 7-13

Wozers what a week it was!!

I spent nearly ALL of Sunday with this lady.

She's a badass. But I didn't get the chance to WOD with her. Which is a-okay in my book. Instead I got hours and hours and hours of nutrition advice, which I greatly need right now.

Sunday-REST DAY!! As I mentioned above, I spent the day with Christmas. I came home and the kids, James and I went on a bike ride through our neighborhood. It was quite nice Smile

Steps: 8,195 (lots of sitting in the seminar. Now I know how working folks feel!!)

Calories: 376

Monday-CROSSFIT! I walked into my box ready to really work. I had my new #RelentlessLife diet plan all ready to go, and I was pumped!

I started off my morning with a protein shake, worked out, walked 2 miles, came home and an hour later re-fueled!

I did a bunch of chores around the house, laundry, kitchen cleaning, the stuff that I normally do, and then returned to CrossFit En Fuego a few hours later for the kids to do their CrossFit Kids class.

Faces blurred to protect those kids who don't have blogger parents.

I did get a little "hangry" earlier in the evening, but I was still really trying to wrap my head around this whole block thing.

Steps: 16,319

Calories: 826

Tuesday-CROSSFIT! I spent a bit of time on Monday night reading all about blocks, and I had a BREAKTHROUGH and it all finally started to make sense!! And it was so easy. Sometimes it just takes me a bit longer to figure things out! Tongue Out Christmas was great about answering my questions, and offering advice on meals.

For breakfast I had my protein shake again (I'm loving these!!) and headed into my box.

The WOD was supposed to be a partner WOD, but I did it alone; for 2 reasons. 1) I wanted to go heavier on my power cleans, and Coach only wanted one bar per partner team, and 2) I'm modifying my bar facing burpees and I didn't want to slow anyone down and have them wait on me, so I just figured it'd be easier to go at it alone. So I did. I took a 60-90 second rest between each round. I'm not totally sure how many I completed, but I'm guessing it was about 10. I should have kept track.

I had to hustle after the WOD to take Ronin to the dentist to get his first ever cavity filled. It was not a good experience for him. He doesn't react well to anesthesia, and while he wasn't going to be "knocked out" I did let the dentist know of his adverse reactions. They assured me that he'd be fine with the "happy gas." Um....not so much. After about 10 minutes they came out to get me. Apparently while they were holding the mask over his nose he tried to bite, kick, and pinch them. So they came to get me and gave me 2 options. 1) They could totally sedate him (either orally or IV) and 2) I could try to get him to take the "happy gas." I decided to start with option 2.

They ended up calling me the "ASD Whisper." But really I'm just mom. I can calm him down, and get him to relax. So he got his cavity filled and I'm pretty sure that's an experience he NEVER wants to go through again, so I'm hoping this means he'll brush his teeth a little better. Tongue Out

After the dentist we hustled over to the other side of town to pick up our weekly produce! YUMMY!!

I immediately made Zoodles with onions and tomatoes and thought I prepped enough for the week.

Steps: 16,801

Wednesday-CROSSFIT!! Again I started my morning with a protein shake. I was feeling really good and ready to tackle what ever my day had in store for me!

But I wasn't expecting that WOD! LOL. But I did it. I set a goal of rowing the 2000m in under 10 minutes and I DID IT!! Laughing I was really proud of that!!

And I don't run. Not at all. Not with my foot the way it is. So I walked 2 miles instead. Not really for time, just to walk.

And then I came home and had ground turkey meat with my zoodle mix. It was SUPER GOOD!!

And then I went for some physical therapy on my foot, and my doctor determined that I have an uneven pelvis and overcompensate on my left side. So he adjusted my squat stance and let me tell you...IT MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Wednesday night the kids had CrossFit and Ronin had CubScouts. You'd think a WOD like this would tire the boy out. But no. He went scouting where he had to continue to do PE type exercises. He didn't crash for quite some time!

Ronin was once again TOP popcorn seller for his Den, so a HUGE thanks to our friends and family. And you can order your own popcorn HERE.

Wednesday was a busy day!

Thurday-CROSSFIT! It was 9-11 so I pretty much knew that we'd have one heck of a WOD. I arrived at the box only to realize that I had left my heart rate strap and transmitter at home. WHAT?? I never do that, but at the last minute I changed purses and didn't switch out that ever important pocket. I made a spur of the moment decision to quickly head home for my gear. I had a goal of my own to burn 911 calories, and I needed my stuff to make sure that happened.

(A)

1 x 8 @ 70%

- 110 Burpee Pull-Ups
(representing the 110 floors of WTC Tower 2)
- 343 Double Unders
(representing the 343 lost Firefighters)
* Stair Climbs

We made it through ALL the back squats and ONE round of front squats before time was called and we had to stop so that we had enough time to complete our Tribute WOD.

Our WOD was tough, but in teams of 3 we cheered each other on, and we finished!

I was feeling sad, and cried a few times remembering how horrible that day was 13 years ago.

I didn't watch the news, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. The memory will forever live with me. I don't need to rehash it with video footage.

But something cheered me up.

A beautiful pair of Reebok Lifters!!! They are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I can't wait to wear them on Monday night when I do my squat program. Combined with my new squat stance, I am picturing a new PR in my future!! You can see more about the Reebok Lifters HERE.

It was so nice to actually not have to rush out and do anything on Thursday night. We just chilled out at home and all 5 of us got to bed nice and early!

FRIDAY-REST DAY! Can you believe it? An honest to goodness rest day!! I am still in shock myself. Why a rest day? Only because I had to take Ella to a doctor's appt for her back. She injured herself in early August after slipping on a "ride" at a local restaurant and after suffering from a broken rib, and injured back, the pain in the back just hasn't gotten any better after nearly 5 weeks, so off we went to the doctor. We left with a RX for Physical Therapy for 6-8 weeks 2-3 times per week. I'm already stressing thinking about how I'm going to add that in to an already stressful life. But I'll make it work.

The girls are participating in Google Start Up Weekend Tampa Youth, so I spent a majority of Friday evening shuttling them back and forth. It's well worth it, though my step count is weekly low for the day. It truly was a rest day.

Steps: 9,701

Saturday-REST DAY!! Well, it was supposed to be a rest day. After getting my girls off to SWTampa, I came home, did some laundry, cleaned the kitchen and told my husband and son that we were heading out NOW for a bike ride.

We did 12 miles. Ronin and I stayed together while the husband cycled a little bit faster, so he got in a little more miles. But even after all of that cycling, Ronin still had a TON of energy left! This kid just never stops!

We went out for lunch to Chili's and they were more than happy to make me a #RelentlessLife lunch!

We spent the rest of Saturday (well, I spent the rest of Saturday) doing laundry, picking up children, and writing this post. Tongue Out Ronin and James relaxed and watched the movie Bears. It was cute, I could hear the film while I was typing, and would glance up and see some of the documentary. Very well done.

Steps: I'm aiming for 10,000.

Calories: 859 (that's from the time we left home, until we got back, so not all is activity burn.)

And that was my week!! How was your week??

Trying to get in the zone August 31-September 6

Okay, 3rd week of school is done. We've celebrated Labor Day. Things should start to get back to normal, right?

Right.

That's what I keep telling myself.

But it's not happening just yet.

I have had constant meetings, appointments, laundry, and STUFF preventing me from getting back in the zone.

Thankfully I have my one constant...CROSSFIT!!!

Sunday-REST DAY. Again, also known as mow the lawn day!

I mowed earlier in the day and it was much more pleasant than mowing at 2pm. I spent the rest of the afternoon doing additional chores, and FINALLY got my Staghorn Fern mounted on the large pieces that I had cut from my Oak Tree. It gives me a little bit of comfort to know that even though my beautiful oak is dead and gone, that it is helping to provide my beautiful birthday ferns with a home.

I love my ferns. My dad gave me the one on the left for my 40th birthday. It was just a tiny clipping 3 years ago. The one on the right my husband gave to me about 5 years ago. It was mounted on our tree and was growing very very slowly. It's really taken off recently.

Steps: 22,168

Calories: 922

Monday-CrossFit! Happy Labor Day!! We had a partner WOD at CrossFit En Fuego and we divided up into groups of 4. At one time there was always a group of 2 running with a med ball. But I don't run, so I rowed with a weighted vest. It actually worked out well because we had a group of 5, so I would row while 2 were running, and 2 were working on the other movements. It made me feel like I wasn't holding anyone back from their WOD because of my injury.

It was a 35 minute AMRAP. I'm pretty sure I rowed a total of 6 times, so likely we completed 6 rounds in the 35 minutes. It was a good WOD.

The kids and I then spent the afternoon with some of our CrossFit friends at a pool party! Check out the air Ronin is getting in that throw!

My Yuba Bike was also a huge hit.  CrossFitters race around The Loop!!

It was a very nice, relaxing day spent in good company, with good food.

Steps: 10,683

Calories: 505

Tuesday-CrossFit!! Monday would have normally been our squat day but because of the Holiday we did it on Tuesday instead!

That was the longest 8 minutes of my life! Tongue Out I made it to 21. I was on 18 stepups when time was called, but I wanted to complete the entire round so my time technically was 8:08. I liked that time. It's my birthday!! 8-08-71 Cool

After the WOD we walked a 2 mile shakeout. It was a great day for working out!!

Steps-20,358

Calories-724

Wednesday-CROSSFIT!! Such a busy day! First I did my WOD!

And what a WOD it was!! Awesome. But I had to hustle out of the box because I had an IEP meeting for my son. My apologies to anyone that I met with that morning. I'm sure I was just a wreck. Tongue Out

I made it back home, got dinner going, picked up the kids, fed the kids, then took kids back to CrossFit for their WOD.

Ronin FINALLY made it over the big wall all on his own! Go RONIN!!

And then I drove kids back home, and Ronin and I went to CubScouts where he was awarded as top popcorn seller for his den!

I'll be honest, at first I was like "ugh a fundraiser." But once I heard that 70% of the cost of the product goes directly back to the Pack/Den, I was all over selling that stuff!!

In fact, if YOU would like to order popcorn from Ronin and help to contribute to his continued growth and success as a CubScout click HERE

Thursday-CROSSFIT. Really no surprise there, right? Tongue Out And sticking with the pattern, Thursday was squat day.

This ended up being a WOD that I had to modify because I can't run, and I can't jump. So I rowed, and I did slam balls. It worked out just fine :)

I also went back to the chiropractor for additional ART therapy on my plantar fasciitis. I must say...it hurts, but IT'S WORKING!!! My foot is feeling much much better!!

Didn't really do much else besides playing with the dog and the kids. Ella has a LOT of homework this year, so we've been working hard on studying, getting her all prepared for her tests. She wants to be the smartest students in her class, so I'm doing my best to help her.

Steps: 12,200

Calories: 434

Friday-CROSSFIT!! Sensing a pattern here? I'm not really taking many rest days am I?? Again, exercise is keeping me SANE right now, so I foresee very little rest days in my future.

Since I had been every day this week I had no WOD to "make-up" so I chose a nice long HERO WOD to do...."Don."

U.S. Marine Corporal Donald M. Marler, 22, of St. Louis, Missouri, assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based in Camp Pendleton, California, died on June 6, 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He is survived by his mother Susan, his father David Sr., his sister Jennifer Pupillo, and his brothers David Jr. and Jacob.

"DON"

For time:
66 Deadlifts, 110 pounds (scaled to 75 pounds)
66 Box jump, 24 inch box (scaled to 14 inch)
66 Kettlebell swings, 1.5 pood (scaled to 30 pounds)
66 Knees to elbows
66 Sit-ups
66 Pull-ups (scaled to ring rows)
66 Thrusters, 55 pounds (scaled to 35 pounds)
66 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball (scaled to 10 pouns)
66 Burpees
66 Double-unders (scaled to slam balls since I can't jump)

I was being teased that I had set up an office at the box.

It was a GREAT WOD!! It took me nearly 54 minutes to complete. I broke it up into 6 rounds.  It was tough. But I did it.

And then I went and got my hair done.

And then I picked the kids up from school and we went with our new friends for Frozen Yogurt and then spent nearly 2 hours with the same friends playing at the park. It was a GREAT DAY!!

Steps: 11,305

Calories: 818

Saturday-You guessed it CROSSFIT!!

For the first time EVER I actually worked out WITH Ronin. I saw the WOD written on the white board and I KNEW that he could do all the movements since he's been working a lot with kettlebells in his CrossFit Kids class. We asked the coach if it was okay that he worked out with the adults and she said as long as I was okay with it since she knew that was typically MY time, and I said I was excited by the possibility so off we went to WOD together!

The WOD called for 20 rounds total, so 10 each. After 1 round Ronin was toast. Tongue Out Not really sure how or why, but all he wanted to do was run. And since I can't run, we made a compromise. He did all the running and I did all the swinging. So we did 12 rounds total.

And it was fine.

Then I came home and mowed the lawn. Why on Saturday?

Because tomorrow I am hanging out with Christmas Abbott.

Steps: 17,000

And with that....my week is OVER!

A Week of CrossFit August 24th-30th

Looking back, I realized I did CrossFit EVERY SINGLE DAY last week. Except for Sunday which is always my active recovery day and I mow the lawn.

It's been a while since I've WOD'd 6 days in a row. And I feel GREAT!!

There is just so much going on in my life and CrossFit really helps to keep me focused and sane. I am still struggling, I mean really struggling to find a job. I am also really struggling to bust through this weight loss plateau. I have been doing everything, and I mean everything, RIGHT. I'm tracking EVERYTHING, I'm eating breakfast, high quality foods, no booze, no breads, no junk food, and the scale is just not budging. It's so hard to not to frustrated. Ugh. So I focus on my workouts, my kids, and looking for a job.

Okay, so here was my week.

Sunday-Rest Day. AKA Mow the Lawn Day. There is just something so wonderfully peaceful to me about mowing my lawn. The kids don't bother me. The husband doesn't bother me, I just mow. Actually as I sit here and type this early on Sunday morning, I'm already thinking about when I can get out to mow my lawn. Tongue Out I couldn't even tell you what else I did on Sunday except mow. Probably some additional lawn work, or maybe I rode the bike around with the kids.

Steps: 18,463

Calories: 525

Monday-CrossFit. This began our 2nd week of our 12 week squat program. I'm not sure if I mentioned that I bought a pair of Rehband Knee Sleeves. Well, I did and they make a WORLD of difference!!

It's hard to see all the little pics of my Polar, but for the total workout I burned 630 calories. That's a lot of squats. And for the shoulder to overhead movements I went with 35, 45, and 55 pounds. My shoulders were burning at the end, but I completed at least 5 full sets for each round.

And then I returned to CrossFit later that evening for my son Ronin to participate in his CrossFit Kids class. He LOVES CrossFit kids and he's getting stronger and stronger every class!

Steps: 16,148

Calories: 630

Tuesday-CROSSFIT. Normally I really dislike gymnastics skill work, and today was no different, HOWEVER, I did manage to get in a few proper kipping movements, but only because Coach Pete was right that helping me. When I tried alone, no such luck. Undecided

Calories: 349

Steps: 14,002

Wednesday-CROSSFIT. I wasn't able to make it in for my normal 9am class. It was just a horrible, awful, no good, very bad day. But I made it in to WOD at 5pm, and Ronin came with me since he WOD's at 5:45.

I made it up to 75 pounds for the complex, and I *think* I could have gone up heavier, but we ran out of time. I settled on a working weight of 65 pounds, and it was challenging, but not so hard that I was struggling.

Ronin also went up with his weight on kettlebells. He's now up to 20 pounds. Good job Ronin. Right after the WOD ended we had to change and HUSTLE to get to his first CubScout meeting for the year! Whew. It was a time crunch for sure!

But we made it and Ronin earned his first pin as a Bear. He earned his summertime activity pin.

Calories: 373

Steps: 9,990

I was so glad when this day was over, and just wanted to go to bed. I don't care that I missed my daily step goal by 10 steps.

Thursday-CROSSFIT. And Squat Day.

It was a great WOD! I thought for sure I would need the entire two minutes to complete each round, but I surprised myself, and finished under a minute each round! Go me!

I did 55 pounds for the hang clean, and honestly think I could have gone heavier. I also subbed 3 ring rows because I am NO WHERE  near any sort of a muscle up.

Calories: 513

Steps: 17,393

Friday-CROSSFIT. Friday is makeup day, but since I had been there every single day, I had nothing to make-up. I really really really wanted to do deadlifts, so I chose to do a "girl" Christine.

(3x)
500m row
12 Deadlift (bodyweight)
21 Box Jump (24″/20″)

But....Coach Pete said he didn't want me to go use my bodyweight, only 65%, so that meant I deadlifted 125 pounds.

After the 3 rounds I still had some UMPH left in me, so I went for 2 more rounds to make it an even 30 minute WOD.

And then I hustled home for a shower because I had a lunch meeting with the Kissimmee Tourist Board (exciting things coming!!) and needed to get the kids from school!

I made it back to Land O' Lakes in plenty of time, took the kids for Friday FroYo, and then it started to POUR rain and thunder. Ugh. Ronin and I had BIG PLANS that night!

This was our 3rd WOB at WOD and once you complete 3 fun run's you earn a free shirt!! Just when I thought we wouldn't be able to make it, it stopped raining. We had planned to ride our bikes up there, but we didn't have time, so I threw my Yuba Mundo in the back of the truck, and up we went!

The plan was for Ronin to run, and for me to pace him on my bike. I am still not able to run, but my son LOVES to run. The past 2 fun runs we've done he's ended up being with other CEF members, and while they say that they don't mind running with him, I know better. Tongue Out Ronin is a sweet sweet boy, but he's a handful and I hate the thought of him running with someone else just because I can't.

But the bike worked like a charm. 3, 2, 1, and we were off. Ronin took off like a cheetah, I had to really move my bike fast to catch up and I was surprised to see that he was up in the front. In 3rd place to be exact. Surprised A pace he kept for his first mile!! My boy ran an 8 minute mile!! That was his goal, too. He's 8, and wanted to run an 8 minute mile. And he did it!! At about 1.25 miles in to the race he started to get a foot cramp, so he hopped on the back of the Mundo, and I rode up to the 1.5 mile turnaround, and he got off, ran a bit more, cramped again, hopped on, and I rode us to about mile 2.5 at which point he got off and ran to the finish line! He ended up still finishing in 3rd place with an overall time of 24:17!! Sure, the bike helped him a TON, but he did what he set out to do. He ran an 8 minute mile. And he was so proud of himself, and I was so proud of him!

Calories-1500 (that's for both my WOD warmup, the WOD, the 5K warmup, and the 5K cycling)

Steps-12,273

Saturday-CROSSFIT. Ronin also have CrossFit Kids on Saturday morning, so he came along. I did a partner WOD while he did his WOD. My WOD consisted of:

1000m row

50 KB Swings (35 pounds)

50 step-ups

50 tire-flips

1000m row

I'm not exactly sure what all Ronin did in his WOD, but I saw him do UNASSISTED pull-ups multiple multiple times. He's getting so strong, and I'm so proud!

He still needs to learn how to kip, but I really think that a muscle-up is going to be in his very near future.

We came home and I did some weed picking, and general outside work. And Ronin managed to snap a picture of me in my new WOD at WOB tank that I earned on Friday night Smile

Calories-597

Steps-15,157

Overall it was a really great week. I'm really looking forward to this week. It's going to be INSANELY BUSY! I have appointments every day. Some right after my WOD, others will allow me time to come home and change, but it's going to be nuts.

But...NEXT SUNDAY, guess where I'll be?

That's right! I'll be at a personal seminar with the one, the only, Christmas Abbott. I'm pretty excited about that!!

SO...how was your week??
