Last week I confessed that I knew I had gained some weight and I was going to return to Weight Watchers. I had gained a total of 23 pounds in a course of a year.
I felt pretty amazing being back on plan this week. I was excited to weigh-in this afternoon. I wasn't sure what to expect. I was weighing in AFTER my workout, at 12:15 in the afternoon. I had eaten breakfast, drank lots of water during my workout, and was wearing heavier clothing because it's COLD down here in Florida.
James and the kids are all off from work/school so they wanted to come with me since I'm driving a beautiful Audi Q7 from Reeves Import Motorcars for the next few days. This meant that I couldn't stay for my meeting. Which meant that if I had a loss I wouldn't get to celebrate in the meeting and that's one of the things that I enjoy most about Weight Watchers. They stayed in the car and in I went. I took off my shoes, and my hoodie, and stepped on the scale.
I was beside myself when I saw the loss!
-6.6 pounds in ONE WEEK!! I earned my first 5 pound star and got a bravo sticker, too
When I first started Weight Watchers back in April, 2009 my first weigh-in was a loss of 7.4 pounds but I was 285 pounds when that happened!! I wasn't expecting such a big loss when I am a fraction of that weight now.
But should I be surprised?
What did I do right??
- I tracked all my foods, including 0P+ fruits and veggies
- I kept a lot of pre-cut fruits and veggies in the fridge which made it really easy for me to grab and go
- I measured all my meats, and beans (love my Weight Watchers measuring spoons)
- I did NOT eat out ONCE.
- I drank at least 100 ounces of water per day
- I used my handy dandy Polar Loop to track all my steps and activity level and on average had 15,000 steps per day. Those steps really add up!
- I was ACTIVE!! I worked out 5 days including running a 5K with my daughters on Sunday. I earned 66 Activity Points for the week and didn't eat any of them. I also had 46 Weekly Points left, so I totally stayed within my daily points target.
What could I improve on??
Honestly I don't think there was much to improve on this week (well, maybe getting some more sleep.) I listened to my body, to my hunger cues and I was active.
6.6 down 16.4 to go!
I hope you all have an amazing week and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

The last time I attended a Weight Watchers meeting was in mid-2012. I had stopped attending meetings when I began to work for Weight Watchers as a receptionist. On those Saturday's when I'd be working, I'd leave the house by 6am, and often not return until close to 11am. I missed my Saturday gym workouts, and I missed my own meetings. I just didn't have enough time in my day for a personal meeting. I was still doing my monthly weigh-in, but no meetings. Then life happened and I stopped going to my monthly weigh-ins. I haven't weighed in since January, 2013.
I know my body has changed because of the amount of weight that I can lift. I know I am bigger, more muscular, SWOL because of the weights I lift. But I also know that I have been indulging in too many paleo treats and beer. I don't eat gluten (except beer), but there are plenty of gluten free goodies. Doesn't mean they are good for me.
And I miss the friendships at my Weight Watchers meetings. I will going to a different meeting than I did previously simply because as a work-at-home-mom, I now have a little more flexibility in my schedule. I plan to go Wednesday afternoons at 12:15pm. That's a really good time for me, and I'm super excited to get back to the plan.
To be honest...I'm expecting like a 20 pound weight gain from January. And that's not all muscle. A few pounds maybe. But not 20. We'll find out on Wednesday. And I'll hold myself accountable.
I went shopping today and stocked up on a lot of my favorite Weight Watchers goodies that helped me last time. Greek yogurt for breakfast. It's Chobani Key Lime flavor and is 5P+. I'll have a vanilla chai protein shake after my WOD and that's 3P+, plus the almond milk 1P+. Lunch has always been my biggest meal of the day. Usually a 6oz portion of protein (chicken or fish) and a mixed green salad, plus dressing. Usually about 12P+
I won't need an afternoon snack because lunch is so big, and then for dinner, I'll have a regular 3oz portion of protein, or beans, and a salad. 6+P
I'll generally earn anywhere from 11-14 activity points per day. I didn't eat them in the past, don't know if I will this time around. We'll have to see how my body responds.
My snacks are fruit, and I bought some dark chocolate covered bananas and strawberries from Dole. They look good and are only 3P+ for a serving. Now if I can just remember to eat ONE serving. That's been an issue recently, too. Simply eating too much. Even if it's good for me, it's not good when it's in excess.
So here we go. Time to buckle down and drop this extra weight that I know I've put on. I don't know how much I've put on, so I don't know how much I need to lose. I just want to look and feel better. And I want to have fun while doing it. And that's where Weight Watchers has been so helpful for me in the past. I just have to remember that even though I hit goal, I still NEED my meetings. They are a part of who I am.
I've unofficially started again, today Monday November 18th. But my first weigh-in will be Wednesday November 20th, so that will be my official start day.
Have you ever done Weight Watchers?

Two years ago TODAY I had the amazing opportunity to appear on the Rachael Ray show!
My sister and I were flown to NYC. In between hair, makeup and outfit changes for Rachael Ray, we got to do a little bit of sightseeing!
This was the first time Lori and I had ever taken a trip together as adults. We had so much fun!
Being a children's librarian, of course I had to make a visit to the NYC Public Library! It was so beautiful!
Click here for my clip from the Rachael Ray show!!
My eyelashes were out of this world!!
It was an amazing experience and YES, I got to keep the clothing from head to toe (earrings, dress, bracelet, rings, purse, hose, shoes, and shape wear.)
Have you ever been on a national talk show? Tell me about it!

Things have been busy around here! Being a work-at-home-mom is challenging and full of distractions. There is always laundry to do, dishes to clean, homework to help with, science fair experiments to conduct, and of course there is "my work."
Earlier this week I was honored to be chosen as the Working Woman of the Week by Working Women of Florida!
How cool is that??
I've been participating in the Working Mom's Roundtable discussion which meets on the 4th Thursday of every month (not for November or December though because of the Holiday season.) I've enjoyed connecting with other working moms and having the opportunity to hear strategies that work for their families. Today we met. This is what I wore. It's a super cute dress with the prettiest hemline. Of course the photo I took doesn't really show the entire hem. You can only see the top of it. It's a size 8. And the biceps were a bit tighter than the last time I wore it which was last February when I tried it on in the store! Not surprised though. I've been up in the gym just a workin' on my fitness and my biceps are getting bigger!!
My husband works right across the street from where we meet, so we've also been able to meet for lunch once a month. It's very nice. Today he surprised me by saying "I made reservations." What? Reservations?? I can't remember the last time we went out to eat at a place that required reservations!
We went to Mitchell's Fish Market and it was so good! I had an appetizer for my lunch. Ceviche! Shrimp and scallops with mango and lime. And it was a tad bit spicy. But so good! It was nice to have a lunch date with my husband. Last month we went out for seafood too!
The Working Women blurb also mentions how I am the social media manager for a national fitness apparel company. It's true. I am managing the blogger outreach, blog and soon Facebook and Twitter pages for My Race Ragz. I've been doing it for just over a month and I am loving it! I love connecting with other fitness bloggers and offering them the opportunity to order and review a custom made race shirt! In exchange for their honest review, they get the opportunity to offer a giveaway to one of their readers. I love their shirts and will soon be offering a giveaway to my own readers!
Fall has finally arrived in Florida. It was actually chilly last night, and darn right cold this morning. The kids all needed jackets to head off to school. It's beautiful weather for getting out and taking a nice long evening walk!
Earlier this week (when it was still 90 degrees) I took the kids to a corn maze/fall festival at Sweetfield Farms. We had fun. They each had a cold rootbeer in a glass bottle. A first for them, and they loved it!
We painted pumpkins, and watched a pig race.
It was a good day.
What is your favorite thing about Fall??

I have been having ups and downs with my body recently. I know I should be so proud of all the weight I've lost, AND I AM, but my body is changing shape.
As I've been strength training more and more, I am getting more muscular. The top half of me from the waist up in getting leaner, stronger, more defined while the bottom half is building muscle and my thighs and butt are growing. It's a COMMON issue with women who crossfit. I've talked to my female coaches and some of the other female athletes at my box, and they all agree that it takes some time to get used to, but once you do, and you realize what your body is capable of doing, a mind shift happens and bam...it's no longer a concern.
I had that mind shift happen today and it totally made me #rethinkmyday.
What was my ultimate goal when I started CrossFit En Fuego? I wanted to become stronger. I wanted to be able to pick up my dog. I wanted to be able to do a pull-up. And I have certainly become stronger. And if I had to do it, I could pick up 2 Matthew's (my dog, he weighs 120lbs.) Pull-ups are still a work in progress but at least I've gone down in assisted band color/resistance!!
I stepped in to my box this morning and saw the WOD posted. And then Coach Josh explained something that was written on the board but that we sometimes overlook. 1 big word and 1 big phrase. HEAVY & NOT FOR TIME.
This is when the phrase #rethinkgyourday started playing over and over in my head and I decided that not only would I go HEAVY, I would go for my max prowler push and sled pull. Like over 200 pounds. I have wanted to pull what I lost since the beginning on September and have been training hard. I've been pulling 45 pounds for a mile for at least a month. I didn't want to pull 200 pounds for a mile, just 40 yards.
Could I do it??
YES!! I did it!! It was heavy. It was challenging. I had to stop at least once and regain my footing because I was a little unbalanced. How did I manage to carry this much weight around on my body on a daily basis? I have no idea.
Then it was time for the push. I haven't really been practicing the prowler push and really didn't know what I'd be able to do. My friend Kris had just finished her push, and was waiting and she jokingly said "can you push me back down?" and I said YES, jump on! Again, I had no idea what I'd be pushing. Turns out I pushed over 230 pounds!!
I didn't even realize that a photo was snapped until Coach Jen put my camera back down on the weights. I love that.
So I did it. I pushed and pulled the amount of weight that I used to carry around on my body.
Then I came home and took a picture of my arm. Would it be visibly noticeable that I had gained muscle?
I can see it. And I'm very happy with it. I don't think my extra skin is ever going to go away. But I'm okay with that. Look at the muscle that is building on top of it. That's proof that my hard work is paying off!
What can you do to #rethinkyourday??
