Florida SSYRA Battle of the Books 2017-2018

22. April 2017 16:15 by jennifer | 0 Comments

The 2017-2018 Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) books have been announced! The list for grades 3-5 has a few repeat authors including Laurence Yep and Sarah Weeks. I don't see  any of the authors on the 6-8 list as being repeat nominees.

Parents and teachers, get a jump on everyone else by having your kids read a few of the titles over the summer. I have yet to see a summer reading list that does not include at least ONE SSYRA book. And the book usually includes a project to be submitted the first week of school. And how many of you have kids that wait until that last week to read the book and do the project? Based on the number of families that I see in the library scrambling to get their hands on a copy of ANY SSYRA book for that year, it seems like a lot of kids wait until the last minute. And we only have a limited copy of the books. Sure we have a lot of copies, usually at least 50 print copies, plus audio and ebook through Overdrive and Hoopla, but sometimes that's not enough.

So yo,

Don't procrastinate,

Don't sleep late,

or let stress escalate

SSYRA reading is postulate

In the Sunshine State

Let the words captivate

Reinvigorate.

But what is for sure odd is that I had 21 Poke balls and I could not catch this Zubat.       Whether it's a Charmander or a Rattata, we want to know what you catch.
