Summer Road Trips: Audio Books for Kids

20. May 2015 15:11 by jennifer | 0 Comments

I do not have a DVD player in my car, and I can honestly say that I NEVER WILL.

My kids enjoy reading, and they L.O.V.E. audio books when we spend any sort of significant time in the car.

We've listened to so many audio books in the car. The ones that really stick out are Harry Potter (difficult with the strong English accents), Magic Tree House, and to date, their favorite audio book was Tuck Everlasting.

We'll be traveling this summer, spending a few days of 10+ hours in the car, and I've got our list of audio books ready to be downloaded on Overdrive!

So what will we be listening to this summer?

The Wolves in the Walls by Neil Gaiman. He's fantastic and can't wait to listen to this story!

Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman. This story sounds fantastic (a bit Mulan-like) and I know my trio will LOVE it!

I am also a HUGE fan of John Grisham and have never had the opportunity to read his Theodore Boone, Kid Lawyer series, so I have this series all ready to go in my queue. Not sure what the kids will think of it, but if they don't like it, no harm, no foul. Just delete it and move on.

Another of my favorite adult authors that has crossed over to YA is James Patterson. I can not wait to listen to his Maximum Ride series!! Just listen to this synopsis!  "Six unforgettable kids — with no families, no homes — are running for their lives. Max Ride and her best friends have the ability to fly. And that's just the beginning of their amazing powers. But they don't know where they come from, who's hunting them, why they are different from all other humans... and if they're meant to save mankind — or destroy it."

That's the series we're going to start with and I'm pretty confident that I'll be #WINNING after that story!! 9 books in that one series! That could keep us busy the entire summer!!

So, what about you?? What's on your audio books for kids list??

Kid Friendly Smartphones from AT&T

23. September 2014 15:48 by jennifer | 1 Comments

When my two daughters were recently asked by AT&T to review 2 of their smartphones, I jumped at the opportunity. My girls have been wanting phones for a while, and I figured this would be a great test of their maturity levels. Haley had reviewed one previously, and demonstrated that she was mature enough to handle it, so this time she got the opportunity to review a Samsung S5, while Ella reviewed the HTC Desire 610.   Ella offers her review below in a VLOG.   Here are Haley's thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy S5. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is amazing for kids that are having trouble in school! How? Well kids can watch educational videos on YouTube encouraging education. Yep that’s right EDUCATION with a phone that sounds crazy right? But it’s not. It also can work without WIFI and it downloads excellent apps to help kids study their weak subjects. I used this phone to entertain myself and, study for my tests. Try it out and you’ll see that it’s an awesome phone. (My opinion.) This phone is an amazing entertainer in long car rides. You can watch YouTube videos on it just like you would do on a computer. You can also play fun apps like Jetpack Joyride, Survival craft, Stack the States and Countries, and much more. With this phone it’s possible to do stuff you couldn’t do with other ones. Like: Be able to do stuff without WIFI and download apps that other phones couldn’t download. This phone is available at Technology stores, Wal-Mart, and nearby stores that have technology based things like T.Vs. This phone has helped so much to me and it was just awesome! I used it for everything and took it with me everywhere. You can take pictures and post them on the following websites: Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. I used the phone to take photos of my experience at StartUp Weekend Tampa Youth, and of my family's recent visit to Kennedy Space Center.    The Samsung S5 takes really great pictures.   Now, from my perspective. Price points aside, I preferred the HTC over the Samsung FOR KIDS. Why? It was smaller, lighter, and actually felt "sturdier."  If your kids are anything like mine, then they are rough on their electronics. Phones (and tablets) are being tossed haphazardly into backpacks and car "pockets" and I felt like the HTC could withstand more of a "beating" than the Samsung. The HTC is available for purchase for $199 with NO contract, FREE with a 2 year contract, or $8.34 per month with AT&T Next. At this point in time we've decided that Ella is not quite ready to handle the responsibility of a phone. Haley is ready, and we're discussing the possibility of getting her one for her 11th birthday this January. If your kids have a phone, what type do they have??

Keeping Your Skin Healthy! Giveaway!

29. July 2013 17:47 by jennifer | 40 Comments

We are a super active outdoor family. Having lived on the Gulf Coast of Florida for most of my life (I moved here in 1985) I have spent countless hours slathered in baby oil, tanning my skin at the pool, and the beach. I enjoy all the activities that help me to achieve a sun-kissed look, and now that I'm nearly 42, I have learned my lesson and I do wear a dark tanning oil sunscreen SPF15.   My kids inherited not only my skin tone, but also my love for all things active in the water!!   Our idea of a perfect day is chilling out on the water; beach, or pool, we're really not picky, with some ice cold beverages! Michelob Ultra for me, and some nice juice boxes for them. Don't worry, Haley didn't drink the beer in the above photo...she was just holding it so I could take our photo! Keeping our skin healthy PRE & POST sun is super important! Recently our family was sent a Healthy Outdoor Skin Kit from Puritans Pride. Our kit included: ─         Puritan’s Pride Aloe Vera Natural Moisturizing Cream   ─         Puritan’s Pride Aloe Vera 85 percent Natural Moisturizing Lotion   ─         Tea Tree Oil Cream for Insect Bites   ─         Little Twig Sun Screen   ─         Oat Protein Complex Sunscreen   ─         Vitamin E Cream   ─         Essential Oil Blend for Relaxation after the sun   ─         Puritan’s Pride Coconut Oil We were just about to head out to the pool when the kit arrived, so it was the perfect opportunity for us to try out some of the products!! Ronin slathered himself in the Little Twig Sun Screen and this stuff was thick! He looked like a little vampire at the pool, but he didn't get sunburnt at all! We didn't even need to re-apply any throughout our many hours at the pool! Later that night we applied the Tea Tree oil to a chlorine rash that Ella developed, and we also rubbed the aloe vera lotion on our sun-kissed skin. It was easy to rub in, smelled good, and didn't leave any sort of greasy residue on our skin! Puritan's Pride wants to give 2 of my readers the opportunity to win their very own Healthy Outdoor Skin Kits! It's easy to win! Just enter the Rafflecopter giveaway below. Good luck! a Rafflecopter giveaway
